Dorothy L. Jones
I am a registered nurse with 30+ years experience in a variety of healthcare settings, most of that in California. I have worked in two countries and two states. This has provided a broad range of problem-solving opportunities. Creating a forum that supports collaboration has generally provided greater enhancements to effective solutions.
My birth process resulted in the paralysis of my left arm. This has afforded me the ability to draw on my personal experience as I support patients in my care and others in my community.
My husband of twenty-seven years and I have two children. My son recently graduated from UCSB with a Bachelor's in Environmental Studies. My daughter attends Sacramento State as a junior studying Journalism with a minor in American Sign Language. She was born with spina bifida and navigates the campus and her environs well in her manual wheelchair. As a family we have enjoyed alpine skiing, cycling, and all manner of outdoor activities that California affords.
It has been my honor to serve on a number of councils and organizations in support of information regarding issues for persons with disabilities. I particularly enjoyed my service to Easter Seals in Ontario, Canada. My nephew is legally blind and my niece is a person with autism. Our family circle has learned to wrestle with its' share of challenges.
Having provided disability consulting information to individuals, groups, school environments and healthcare I have chosen to focus my skills on disability consulting. There is a great gap in both, support of persons with disabilities, and the understanding of those needs among the able-bodied world.
My husband and I enjoy "stairway" walks in San Francisco and hiking and cycling in the wonderful outdoor areas of the Bay Area of San Francisco.
